Traditional Jig
|
We have many years of experience chasing fish around the lakes of the midwest, and like most of you the jig is our go to bait when the tournament is on the line. The jig is probably the most effective method for catching fish ever developed. However, after further review, the jig has some drawbacks. Yes, the jig that everyone is building and using is flawed! There are four main problems with the traditional jig: 1. the weed guard can cause the jig to turn horizontal before or during the hook set and pull right out of the fish's mouth. 2. The weed guard hits the top of the fish's mouth on the initial strike and she spits it out. 3. The plastic trailer, when threaded on the hook shank, can slide down and ball up, impeding the hook point. 4. It just does not look natural! The plastic trailer is on the bottom of the jig, there is a weed guard and hook sticking out of its back, and the skirt covers most of the plastic. That said, wouldn't it be great if some one could improve the most effective fish-catching tool ever created?
CritterBait Tackle Company has done just that.

CritterBait Finesse Jig w/craw trailer
|
CritterBait Tackle Company was started based on the idea that bristle or wire weed guards on jigs are ugly and can result in missed fish on the hook set. Once we began thinking "outside the box", it all became clear: Do away with the weed guard and rig jigs with soft plastics in a semi-"Texas Style" manner. CritterBait's patent pending bait keeper system does just that and solves all the problems of the traditional jig. CritterBait's system includes a skirt collar on the hook shank and a keeper on the head of the jig; it is usually mounted where the weed guard is normally placed. The skirt is mounted on the hook shank and its only function is to cover the hook shank and add body to the bait. The keeper is for attaching the plastic trailer. Mounted in this position, the plastic cannot slide down the hook shank and ball up on the hook point. The plastic is then skin-hooked over the hook point. This makes it as weed less as a "Texas Rigged" plastic worm. When rigged in this fashion, the plastic is on top of the skirt and becomes the primary point of interest for the fish. It also adds buoyancy to the top of the jig, keeping the trailer in a much more lifelike upright position. So rig your CritterBait jig with whatever plastic critter you have, you will catch more fish. Let us know what you think by Contacting us with your feedback.
CritterBait Tackle Company is continuously thinking of ways to improve the baits we use. Now that the jig has been perfected, wait until you see our plastic baits.
